Enter the Raptor

The F-22 reaches operation status today, after being in development since 1987. We have finally reached the fifth generation of fighters, just as the F-14 fleet has been reduced to its last squadron (VF-31) after 32 years of service. Certainly a pivotal year in the history of aviation. It does seem odd that our newest technological toy is already close to 19 years old, hopefully it will have a long and illustrious career as well.
